A New Year, The Same Community

A New Year, The Same Community

Dear friends,

We made it to the NEW YEAR! It’s the time of year we all look forward to, to turn the page and start a new chapter in our lives. However, despite the fact that we eagerly await this time every single year, I think we can all agree that a new start is more important and needed now than it ever has been before.

Over the course of the last month or so, I have noticed a few small but powerful differences in how we are all handling the year coming to an end, and with that a new one beginning. People reminiscing on positive experiences in a year of turmoil (even if it is a little hard to sometimes). People setting huge goals to accomplish for themselves, and encouraging their loved ones to pursue theirs. People sharing more with neighbors and strangers, even while keeping their distances. People gathering less, but reaching out more. It has been nothing short of amazing to see the hearts of many grow right in front of our eyes.

Working on site, I have been blessed to witness and be a part of the magic itself. I have noticed a certain kindness and grace extended between our residents and even between my team. I have been able to rely on those I see daily to be a force I can always count on, even when stressors have been high. I don’t doubt that this spirit will bleed into the new year as well. I do not know of a lot of companies where their employees can say the same about their teams the way that I am able to. I have a lot to owe to the work family I have here and the little in between instances I am able to share with them.

To be honest, I think we as a community have been holding onto these communal moments with great desperation. It would be ignorant to dismiss the trials and tribulations last year had brought all of us, and therefore I feel that these little instances have brought us joy and normalcy in a time where that has been often taken from us. While last year was extremely difficult, it has collectively made us all appreciate the time we got to spend together, the time we get to process what is to come, and the VERY unique memories we will get to carry with us for the new year and the rest of our lives.

Wherever you are reading this letter from, know that we are all experiencing these moments together. Know that all of us in this Preiss Community are noticing the little in between moments, with residents, coworkers, and people all around us. We have never been further apart from those we hold dear, but we have also never held each other closer to our hearts.

So if you are sitting by your computer, contemplating how your year might turn out, you aren’t alone. Whether it’s a fitness goal, mental health goal, career goal, or personal goal, just know your family here at Preiss is here to support you. Even if we have another year like 2020, we will all persist and come out closer and stronger than we ever have been before. And don’t forget, it is totally okay to leave your Christmas decorations up throughout January.

Love,

One Preiss employee to another
