At the start of this year, we set a goal to be more intentional in recognizing and celebrating employee tenure at The Preiss Company. Longevity at Preiss is special—it looks different than it does at many of our peers in the industry. It’s easy to take it for granted, but the truth is: when people join the Preiss family, they tend to stay. And that’s something worth celebrating—loudly and often.
25 years ago, the company had fewer than 12 employees. One of those 12 is still with the organization today! 25 years is almost a full career and we're blessed to have someone put their blood, sweat, and tears into an organization for that amount of time.
Also, 20 years ago this week, we made 3 hires back to back to back within days of each other in the first week of June 2005. The company had no idea that these 3 hires would all be with us for 20 years, nor would we know how much of an impact these 3 incredible women would have on the trajectory of the organization.
With that in mind, please join me in congratulating Jill Alford on her 25th anniversary and Sara Clark, Chantele Hawkins, and Gerry Parks on their 20th anniversaries with The Preiss Company!
Sara Clark – 20 Years
Sara began her career with us as a Property Manager in our Conventional PM department in Raleigh. Sara quickly showed her talent and determination and moved over to the student side of the business as a Property Manager at UV Raleigh. There she led teams and developed an incredible amount of individual employees over the years, many of whom are still with Preiss today. Sara became our 2nd Regional Manager in the company history; her ability to manage, strategize, and connect with a wide variety of team members is one-of-a-kind. Sara now is on the Executive Team where she oversees the entire national property portfolio. We wouldn't be where we are today without Sara's determination, hard work, and strategic guidance!
Chantele Hawkins – 20 Years
Chantele started with Preiss 20 years ago and has spent two decades showing that she was willing to do whatever it took to move the company forward. Chantele started in our corporate Accounting team in Raleigh and then made the big jump to the on-site property side of business, where she starred as an Assistant Property Manager at UV Austin in Austin, TX. Chantele was a dynamic member of the team in Austin for over X years and made the move back to Raleigh to become a part of the PM Leadership team where she serves as Director of Portfolio Financial Management, including new roles helping facilitate CM lender draws. Chantele is a tremendous team player who will always do whatever it takes to get the job done; her attention to detail (and her love of cats and FaceTime) is unmatched!
Gerry Parks – 20 Years
Gerry started with Preiss on this day in 2005 and currently serves as our AP Manager in Accounting. Affectionately known as Mama Gerry around the corporate office, Gerry started her career with Preiss as the APM at UV Raleigh and moved into the Accounting team at the corporate office. Gerry is the heartbeat of our corporate office and goes out of her way to make sure that everyone that she interacts with feels special. While she's tremendous in her role managing our Accounts Payable within Accounting, she brings such a warm touch outside of the workplace. Always willing to make a pot of grits or cook dishes at Thanksgiving, Gerry has warmed the hearts of the entire company. Gerry embodies our culture to a tee and we love everything she's done for us, inside and out.
Jill Alford - 25 Years
Jill started at Preiss in 2000 when the company looked very different than it does today. One of the original 12 employees at The Preiss Company, Jill started as our maintenance coordinator for our single-family portfolio in Raleigh. She's done a variety of roles from receptionist, office manager, to her current role in HR as our benefits coordinator; Jill has truly done it all! Her warm personality and her abilities to make everyone smile, Jill is the embodiment of a Preiss employee. She is willing to do any role asked of her from the very beginning and we couldn't be happier that she's spent her career with us!
Congrats again to Jill, Sara, Chantele, and Gerry! Here's to the next decade ahead!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our colleague and dear friend, Charles Grandstaff, a cherished member of the team at Proximity at 10th in Greenville, NC.
Charles was so much more than a coworker—he was a bright light within the community. His kindness, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm left a mark on everyone he met. Whether you shared a quick conversation or worked alongside him through a busy day, Charles had a remarkable way of lifting spirits and bringing people together.
Beyond his dedication to our team, Charles gave so much of himself to others. He served as an Athletic Trainer with ECU’s football program, volunteered his time coaching youth sports, and was deeply involved in the Greenville community. But above all else, Charles was a devoted father. His love for his son, Chase, was boundless and evident in every story he shared and every proud smile that lit up his face when he spoke of him.
While we are all mourning the loss of a beloved teammate and friend, we know that this loss is felt most deeply by Charles’s family—especially Chase.
To support them in this unimaginably difficult time, we’ve created a GoFundMe page to help with final expenses and to contribute to Chase’s future.
We invite you to join us in remembering Charles and showing his family how deeply he was loved, valued, and respected. Any amount you’re able to give will help us carry forward his memory and provide comfort to those he held closest.

Earlier this year, we announced the creation of Catalyst—a new Summer Development Program designed for a select group of current employees from across the country. This program offers participants the opportunity to work at our Corporate Office, gain exposure to all aspects of our business, contribute to meaningful projects, and experience The Preiss Company’s winning culture from a new perspective.
Today, we are thrilled to officially launch this exciting new chapter in our company’s journey. This initiative reflects our commitment to investing in emerging talent and developing the next generation of leaders within our organization. Through Catalyst, we aim to deliver meaningful learning experiences, provide hands-on opportunities, and foster strong mentorship connections that empower participants to grow both personally and professionally.
