September Round Up

Spotlight

Please join us in congratulating Kasey Munsch and Mike Kivitz on an incredible milestone...15 years with Preiss!

Kasey Munsch – 15 Years

Kasey joined Preiss through the acquisition of The Ivy, rebranded as University Village at Slippery Rock in Slippery Rock, PA. Starting as a Marketing Manager, it was immediately clear she was a step above anyone we had ever had in that role. Her creative talent and mastery of design tools (back in the Microsoft Publisher days!) quickly set her apart.

Today, as VP of Marketing, Kasey is the creative force behind our annual Leadership Conference, the voice behind our Travtus AI initiative, the director of all PR and other public communication, and so much more. Known for her love of animals, her 4 AM productivity streaks, her uncanny ability to dig up background information, and her selfless, thoughtful spirit, Kasey embodies the best qualities of a colleague and a friend. She would go to the ends of the earth for a teammate or this organization. We simply couldn’t do this without you, Kasey!

Mike Kivitz – 15 Years

Mike also began his journey with Preiss at UV Slippery Rock, where I first met him shoveling snow outside the leasing office as a part-time Leasing Agent. That moment perfectly reflects Mike’s career—if there’s a job to be done, Mike will do it.

From those early days, Mike became one of our first true “road warriors,” filling gaps across Charlotte, Statesboro, Auburn, Columbia (MO), and beyond. He steadily worked his way through the on-site management ranks, eventually becoming Regional Manager. Once in Raleigh, Mike quickly earned his reputation as the knowledge king of student housing (he’s even known to leave a day early for vacation just to tour markets along the way!).

Today, as Director of Strategic Partnerships, Mike leverages his expertise and unmatched networking ability to grow our portfolio and connect new clients to all things Preiss. He’s a perfect fit for this role, and we’re thrilled to watch him continue to thrive. A genuine friend, a dependable teammate, and a true embodiment of our culture, we’re lucky to have you, Mike!

Kasey and Mike—thank you for 15 years of service, leadership, and heart. Here’s to celebrating the past 15 and looking forward to the next 15!

Resource

In today’s modern, competitive environment, employees need to replenish their knowledge and acquire new skills to perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively. These new skills will benefit both the employee and the company as a whole. The Preiss Company is committed to ensuring that all employees feel confident about improving their efficiency and productivity, as well as finding new ways towards success and growth in their personal development. The Preiss Company is proud to offer a Learning Stipend to achieve our common goals.

What do we mean by Learning?

A learning organization is a thriving one. In general, we approve and encourage the following employee learning opportunities:

  1. Specific job or industry related course or certification program (i.e. pursuit of real estate license, NAA designation such as CAM or NALP, etc.)

  2. Technical course that is complementary to everyday job skills (i.e. advanced Microsoft Excel certification, sales/customer service seminars, etc.)

  3. Job rotation, job shadowing, and other types of on-the-job training (without disrupting daily operations).

Note: Courses in degree-seeking programs are not covered under this Learning Stipend benefit, such as courses offered in the pursuit of an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degrees.

Who is eligible and what is the maximum benefit under this program?

  1. This policy applies to all full-time employees, after 6 months of employment. Part-time employees might attend trainings at their manager’s discretion.

  2. Eligible employees will take approved course(s) on their own time, or use available PTO hours or floating holiday for the time out of the office. 3.

  3. There is a maximum Learning Stipend payment of $1,500 over the employee’s employment with DP Preiss Company.

What is the procedure for applying for the Learning Stipend?

  1. Employees identifies the need for training.

  2. Employee completes a Learning Stipend Request Form and submits to direct manager.

  3. Manager and one-over manager, approves or rejects the proposal. If rejected, manager should provide employee with reason in writing.

  4. Employee submits form to HR for final approval.

  5. HR notifies employee of final approval or denial.

  6. Employee registers and pays for class/course.

    a. In special, pre-approved cases when the company pays the stipend prior to course completion: if employee decides to drop or cancel the class/course, they’ll have to reimburse The Preiss Company for the cost of the class/course and any cancellation/other fees.

  7. In cases where training ends with examination, employees are obliged to submit the results. If they don’t pass the exam, they can re-take the course at their own expense.

  8. Once employee completes class/course, approved form and proof of course completion is submitted to HR for tracking purposes. HR will send to AP for payment.

  9. Employee agrees to stay with The Preiss Company for one year after completion of course covered under the Learning Stipend policy.

Jada- for doing an Amazing Job with Turn Invoices and getting Owner Statements completed ahead of time!
— Dayvon Taliaferro
Huge shoutout to our amazing team for absolutely rocking it through the turnover period! Your constant willingness to work hard and go above and beyond truly showed in how smooth our move-ins went this year.

A special shoutout to our leasing specialist, Maddie, for jumping in and helping enormously with everything from leasing to turn support during her site visit—she was an absolute pleasure to have on our team, and her efforts made such a difference!

I’m so proud of this team and beyond grateful for the dedication and positive attitudes you all brought to one of the toughest and busiest times of the year. You all crushed it, and it shows! 💪👏
— Anya Cermak
Huge thanks to the Renewal Campaign team creating such a fun campaign 🏈📣. Bringing this vision to life was not an easy task, so I appreciate every detail everyone worked on to make it a success. I’m so excited for the teams to have these resources. Onto the next one!
— Candice Stricklin
Shout out to Candice Stricklin and Emily Thomas for their help with the VIP list process!! This experience has been quite the learning curve for me, but the two of you have been such a tremendous help in getting everything set up and continuously listening to me rant about ideas. I appreciate the both of you so SO much.

Also shout out to everyone that helped get this year’s renewal campaign up and running (Candice Stricklin, Emily Endress, Tati Jorge, Emily Thomas, Hannah-Scott Chamblee, Tiffany Woodard, and Aubrie Hill)! You all put in so much time and effort to get this off the ground — on top of the rebrand, turn, and other things thrown our way — and I truly can’t thank you all enough. I can’t wait to see how well this campaign “plays” out this year!
— Toni Yrlas
Shoutout leasing agents at The Collective at Columbia! Olivia Wilson, Ayush Patel, Landon Stotler, and Kebria Washington.
Those four put in WORK during turn, stepped up in a huge way. Amazing work you four!
— David Campbell
Lee Stuart, Lead maintenance Tech at View Legacy Oaks. The 6 batteries on Lee’s golf cart started to fail and needed to be replaced. Through Lee’s contacts in the Golfing world, he found that a number of golf courses have started switching over to a single Lithium Battery for carts as opposed to 6 acid batteries. Lee spent a good amount of time researching different Lithium batteries to find the best fit for our needs. His research paid off as we purchased a single Lithium battery for HALF the cost of 6 regular golf cart batteries!!! We were able to remove the old batteries and install the Lithium battery ourselves, saving the property even more money. Lee noticed an immediate difference in pick up and performance in his cart with the new battery. Thanks to Lee’s dedication to heading up this project, he saved the property hundreds of dollars on this one battery change out. This savings will multiply moving forward as the property has 3 other golf carts that will need new batteries in the future. Great job Lee on being forward thinking and through in your research on this project!!!
— Robb Griffin

Thank you for all your support. Although you did make me late for damage walks, I forgive you, but Kara made note on our time cards. :)
— Lauren Dalia
